We had a NSBE-Portland AE general body meeting on Wednesday,
August 3rd at 7:00 pm on the campus of Portland State University.
The meeting was held in Suite 236 of Smith Memorial Student
Union. Our guest speaker for was Carl Mack, NSBE Executive Director.
This was an opportunity to interact with our national leadership
and we heard his perspective on Alumni Extension and its role
in the organization.
We also brainstormed on ideas for events/activities, solicited
volunteers for committee involvement and outlined the membership
process.

Portland AE General Body Meeting Minutes

Introduction
Chris Edmond (chair) gave the welcome to attendees of the first
Portland AE General Body meeting. Afterwards, each attendee
gave a brief introduction of themselves to the rest of the audience
members.
Speaker: Carl Mack, NSBE Executive Director
We had the pleasure of having the new executive director of
NSBE Mr. Carl Mack deliver the message for the general body
meeting.
Carl Mack main concern was helping today's youth. He emphasized
the importance of giving back to our youth through NSBE community/outreach
programs such as PCI, NSBE Jr., etc. His other concern was that
children need to know that black professionals exist and that
they too are capable of getting careers in the technology field.

Chapter constitution created and submitted to headquarters.
Our chapter is recognized on NOL as the Portland Metro Alumni
Extension Chapter
Decided to work with Roosevelt High School for the PCI initiative
Yahoo group website is created and will be used to post events,
meetings, etc for the chapter http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nsbe_pdx_alumni/
Membership Update (Edgar)
Core group of engineers are from Intel Corporation
Focus on recruiting from the following companies: Xerox, HP,
PGE, BPA, Nike, etc.
Build a strong level chapter at each company and we should be
successful overtime
Each area will partner with student chapters (Oregon State,
PSU, Oregon Institute of Technology)
No chapter dues currently in place
National dues are $50.00 www.nsbe.org to become a member
General Body Suggestions
Have industry partners sponser events
Use media to get out advertisements
Alumni involvement with student chapters through resume and
interview skills workshops,etc
